Myanmar: Suu Kyi 'concerned' for democratic reforms

www.euronews.net Pro-Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has met William Hague in Myanmar during the first visit by a British foreign secretary since 1955. The visit is also the first by any senior EU figure and follows a recent trip by Hillary Clinton, indicating a warming of relations between the country - also known as Burma - and the west. Hague has welcomed a pledge by President Thein Sein that more political prisoners will be released, and indicated this could have a possitive effect on sanctions put on the country.

Clinton arrives in Myanmar on landmark visit

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Myanmar. She is the highest ranking US official to visit the southeast Asian nation in more than 50 years. Clinton will meet pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and President Thein Sein during her trip. Al Jazeera's Aela Callan reports from Naypyidaw, Myanmar.

Myanmar government talks to ethnic groups

Myanmar's government is reaching out to armed ethnic groups in an attempt to end six decades of civil war. Achieving peace was a key demand made by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her visit to the country last week, as a precursor to further engagement with the West. The first ceasefire agreement has been signed with the Shan ethnic group, and talks continue with nine other ethnic groups, but there is still a long way to go. The ethnic minorities' grievances run deep, even for those not currently locked in an armed struggle. Al Jazeera's Aela Callan reports from Yangon.
